Montreal, September 18, 2024 – Once again this year, the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) has been ranked by Newsweek magazine among the world’s best specialized hospitals—specifically, in cardiology, orthopedics and pulmonology.
The results were announced by Newsweek and Statista Inc., a leading statistics portal and global provider of industry rankings. The ranking was determined by a global survey in which tens of thousands of medical professionals were invited to submit recommendations in their area of expertise. Also factored into the calculation were accreditation data and patient-reported outcome measures.
Of special note in the evaluation is the recognition the JGH received for being the only Canadian hospital to gather data about patient-centred outcome measures (PROMs). This refers to the act of collecting information from patients about how they view their own health—a measure that contributes to more personalized, effective care.
“The excellence that has been noted in the three named specialties is a reflection of the patient-based focus that is evident throughout the JGH,” says Dr. Lawrence Rosenberg, President and CEO of CIUSSS West-Central Montreal, the healthcare network in which the JGH plays a pivotal role.
He also attributes the outstanding results to the close collaboration that is standard among professionals in various specialties and fields. This unified approach is further guided by the CIUSSS’s broad-based philosophy of “Care Everywhere,” in which teams and individuals strive to achieve the right outcomes by delivering the right care at the right time in the location that is most appropriate, safest and most convenient for healthcare users.
In addition, Dr. Rosenberg explains, the JGH’s key participation in an integrated health and social services network broadens and streamlines patients’ access to a variety of specialized facilities, both before hospitalization (e.g., prior to orthopedic surgery) and after their hospital care has concluded.
