What is the role of the Addiction Prevention Service?
The Addiction Prevention Service is comprised of two social workers and three human relations officers offering neighbourhood addiction services at the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal.
The services are available to anyone aged 14 and older living with substance use disorder and/or addiction, as well as their friends and family.
Our approach
Our intervention model empowers the user to determine their own substance use reduction or cessation goals.
Our services
- Identify the addiction’s severity and refer the user to specialized addiction services as needed
- Help managing, reducing, or ceasing substance use or managing addiction-related issues (alcohol, cannabis, prescription medication, other drugs, gambling, internet)
- Mes Choix structured program (ages 18+) for alcohol, cannabis, and substance use, or for problem gambling
- Relapse prevention for people already abstaining
- Support for friends and family of a person living with addiction
- Addictions counselling at the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal
If you have concerns about your own substance use or that of someone close to you, you can contact a psychosocial support worker 24/7 by calling Info-Social at 811, option 2.
You can also go to the psychosocial reception desk at one of the CLSCs within our CIUSSS network. Please consult the hours of operation before going to your CLSC.
