Intensive short-term at-home treatment (TIBD)

What is the role of the TIBD team?

The TIBD team aims to provide an alternative to conventional mental health hospitalization. It offers care similar to that provided in a unit, but in the person’s own environment. This approach is based on a person-centred care philosophy and is designed to keep the individual functioning and continuing to exercise their roles in society.

What services does the team provide?

  • Acute mental health care as an alternative to hospital services, for individuals whose mental state would normally require hospitalization immediately or within the next few days
  • Average duration: six to nine weeks
  • Intervention frequency: high at first, then adjusted according to needs
    • One or two visits a day at the outset, with daily monitoring of medication and weekly meetings with the psychiatrist
    • Frequency is reduced to one to three visits per week near the end of the care period
  • At-home treatment in collaboration with family and friends, according to the wishes and abilities of the individual or people close to them
  • A biopsychosocial approach aimed at recovery and empowerment, in line with the philosophy of person-centred care
  • TIBD service availability: 8:15 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week. Nighttime telephone service provided by Tracom crisis line.
